The President and First Lady welcomed the dignitaries who conveyed Ramadan greetings. The occasion provided an opportunity for warm and cordial exchanges.

In his letter, President Dr Muizzu, highlighted that the Maldives values the enduring brotherly ties with Brunei, rooted in mutual respect and shared values. He expressed confidence that the long-standing cordial relations between the two nations will continue to flourish.

The President further noted eagerness to work closely with the Government of Brunei to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, for the benefit of the people of both countries.

President extends National Day greetings to the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent separate letters of congratulations to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito, Emperor of Japan, and Her Excellency Sanae Takaichi, Prime Minister of Japan, on the occasion of the National Day of Japan.

In his letter to His Majesty the Emperor, the President extended sincere good wishes on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives. He noted that the friendship between the two nations, nurtured over five decades, has grown into a strong and trusted partnership. The President highlighted Japan’s unwavering support as a true friend, which has contributed significantly to the development of the Maldives. He further expressed his desire to strengthen this valued friendship to create new paths for shared success and opportunity.

In a separate letter to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the President reflected on the long-standing and close friendship that has grown through meaningful cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasised Japan’s invaluable contributions to the Maldivian development journey and expressed his sincere hope that this friendship will continue to serve as a strong pillar of bilateral relations. The President conveyed his commitment to elevating these ties in the years ahead, opening new avenues of cooperation and shared progress for the mutual benefit of both countries.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, the President emphasised that her renewed confirmation by the National Diet, with a strong mandate, reflects the confidence placed in her leadership and vision for Japan's future.

The President conveyed that as the two countries approach the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027, the Maldives fondly recalls the generous support of the government of Japan towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives, which continues to be deeply appreciated by the people of the Maldives.

He expressed his confidence that, as the Prime Minister begins a new term in office, the relationship between the two countries will continue to translate shared values into meaningful cooperation that benefits the peoples of both countries.

Concluding, the President extended his personal best wishes for the Prime Minister's success, good health, and for the enduring peace, progress, and prosperity of the people of Japan.

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable held in Berlin, Germany, as part of his ongoing Official Visit to Germany.

The President was received by Dr Volker Treier, Head of Foreign Trade and Member of the Executive Board of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), and Mr Günther Mull, CEO of DERMALOG Identification Systems GmbH.

Speaking at the event, the President expressed his pleasure at engaging with German business leaders whose work has contributed to shaping the global business environment and creating long-term value.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted the Maldives’ Vision 2040, describing it as a commitment to strengthening the Maldivian economy, modernising institutions, and ensuring that growth improves the daily lives of people while protecting the environment. He highlighted modernising financial systems, improving access to foreign exchange, and digitalising public services as key steps towards achieving this vision. The President further noted that official reserves in the Maldives have reached a historic high, improving foreign exchange circulation. He added that maintaining fiscal discipline remains a core policy objective, and outlined progress made in reducing the budget deficit. With these positive developments, he noted that investor confidence has risen substantially, with major technology companies such as Google investing in strengthening the Maldives’ digital connectivity.

The President highlighted the energy transition as another area requiring innovation, given that energy security and energy costs pose critical challenges to the Maldives. He noted that initiatives such as Project Solar City are not only focused on decarbonisation, but are also aimed at creating resilient, affordable, and replicable solutions for island and coastal economies worldwide. In this regard, he noted that the Maldives serves as a testing ground for practical and scalable solutions.

President Dr Muizzu also reflected on the significant contributions of German investors, tour operators, and financial institutions in strengthening confidence in the tourism sector. He noted that 2027 has been designated as Visit Maldives Year and invited German investors to take part in this endeavour. He also invited investors to explore initiatives that go beyond conventional models, such as the sustainable township project, Project Ayla, which was recently commenced.

Additionally, the President spoke about expanding and modernising healthcare by developing specialised services and reducing the need for outbound care, noting that German expertise in these areas aligns well with the Maldives’ priorities.

Further noting banking and financial services as another area for potential investment, the President emphasised that the Maldives aims to provide a transparent, predictable, and rules-based environment that supports long-term partnerships.

Concluding his remarks, the President stated that Germany is a natural partner in the Maldives’ development journey, given Germany’s strength in bringing together experience, technology, and shared interests.

Invest Maldives presented an overview of the investment environment in the Maldives and opportunities available to interested parties. This was followed by a presentation by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment highlighting various initiatives in the tourism and environmental sectors. A number of German businesses presented company briefs, followed by comments from members of the Maldivian delegation.

The roundtable concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in destination promotion and marketing between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH, one of Europe’s leading travel and tourism groups.

President attends Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable

The Maldives and Germany held official talks during the ongoing official visit by His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Federal Republic of Germany from 9 to 13 February 2026.

President Dr Muizzu’s visit marks the first official visit by a Maldivian President at the invitation of the President of Germany, and coincides with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The official talks took place this morning at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the President of Germany. The talks were led by President Dr Muizzu and His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany, with senior members of the governments of the Maldives and Germany in attendance.

Discussions focused on diversifying mutually beneficial cooperation on bilateral and multilateral fronts through increased high-level dialogue and formal agreements.

Maldives and Germany hold official talks

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was accorded an official welcome today at Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Upon arrival, President Dr Muizzu was received by His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Both Presidents inspected the Guard of Honour, after which members of the visiting delegation and German officials were introduced. President Dr Muizzu also signed the Visitors’ Book at Schloss Bellevue and took part in an official photograph with the President of Germany.

President Dr Muizzu is currently in Germany on an Official Visit at the invitation of the President of Germany. The visit coincides with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany.

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro, GNZM, QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand, and His Excellency Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, on the occasion of Waitangi Day.

In his letter to the Governor-General, the President reflected on the principles of partnership, respect, and unity embodied in the Treaty of Waitangi, which continues to shape New Zealand's national identity. He noted that the Maldives greatly values its close and friendly relations with New Zealand, highlighting both countries' shared commitment to cooperation and mutual understanding. The President also expressed his keenness to strengthen collaboration across areas of shared interest, both bilaterally and within multilateral fora.

In his letter to the Prime Minister, the President highlighted the strong friendship built over more than five decades of cooperation and goodwill. He conveyed sincere appreciation for New Zealand's continued support and partnership, expressing confidence that relations will continue to strengthen in a mutually beneficial manner.

President Dr Muizzu extended personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of New Zealand.

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a message marking World Cancer Day, recognising the courage of patients and the resilience of families standing beside them through their journeys.

In his message, the President acknowledged that every person affected by cancer carries a unique story, and that the growing number of patients means many Maldivian families face not only the emotional toll of the disease but also significant financial strain from treatment.

He spoke of efforts under the National Cancer Control Plan 2022-2026 to strengthen prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care, including initiatives such as the national cancer registry, enhanced primary healthcare services, tobacco control measures, and continued collaboration with global partners.The President also noted the launch of chemotherapy services at Un’goofaaru Regional Hospital in January 2026 as a step towards bringing essential oncology care closer to patients and families outside Malé.

President Dr Muizzu commended the dedicated efforts of healthcare professionals and NGOs who advocate for patients and offer hope, strength, and guidance to those affected. He called for continued unity in action, emphasising that every story matters and every life counts.

On his official X account, the President reiterated these sentiments, acknowledging the annual loss of lives to cancer while emphasising the urgent need for greater awareness, prevention, and collective action to support those affected.

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Dongming, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu expressed his sincere appreciation to His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, for his continued support and generosity, which have contributed significantly to the Maldives’ economic and social development. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to further strengthening relations with China across multiple sectors, based on mutual trust and a long-standing friendship. He also highlighted China’s assistance in key development initiatives, including major infrastructure projects.

Discussions focused on enhancing Maldives–China relations, exploring new avenues for cooperation, and strengthening existing partnerships. Key areas of collaboration included housing and infrastructure, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade. Both sides also noted the numerous Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed during President Dr Muizzu’s visits to China, expressing satisfaction with the steady and productive progress of ongoing projects.

During the call, Vice Chairman Wang Dongming acknowledged the friendly ties between the two countries, which have been further elevated by the President’s visits to China. He stated that the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to strengthen this partnership for the benefit of both countries and their peoples. He reiterated China’s commitment to the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed China’s support for the development priorities of the Maldives.

His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent a message to the Secretary-General of SAARC, on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Charter, emphasising the need to revitalise regional cooperation.

In his message, the President stated that it is imperative to reinvigorate the Association by rebuilding trust and convening the SAARC Summit. He underscored that dialogue, unity, and cooperation remain the only viable path to unlocking the full potential of the South Asian region and advancing the prosperity of its peoples.

President Dr Muizzu noted that greater collaboration is essential to addressing the many challenges faced globally and regionally, such as tackling climate change, promoting renewable energy, strengthening public health systems, ensuring food security, reducing inequality, and fostering inclusive economic development. He further stated that a stronger institutional framework within SAARC will enable the region to respond more effectively to these challenges and better serve its people.

Concluding his message, the President reaffirmed the Maldives’ enduring commitment to a stronger, comprehensive, and forward-looking SAARC, one that places the common good above divisions, upholds shared values, and contributes meaningfully to lasting peace, stability, and prosperity across the region.

The briefing was organised by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), an initiative established by His Majesty King Charles III, bringing together Heads of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and leaders in private finance. The session focused on accelerating global efforts to mobilise private capital for solutions that advance global sustainability goals.
